Understand Your Asthma Meds

There are two groups of asthma medicines. There are controller meds and rescue meds. You probably need meds from both groups.

Controller meds are meds you need every day. You should use them all the time–even when you feel good. They help stop asthma symptoms before they start.

Rescue meds help get attacks under control after they start. You should take your rescue med if you have wheezing, trouble breathing, or a tight chest.

Be sure you know which meds you need. Know when to take them. Ask a doctor or nurse for help. Be sure to follow the directions

It is important to understand your meds and use them the right way. This gives you a much better chance of keeping your asthma in control.

Keystone Mercy Health Plan has a special program for members with asthma.  For more information about Keystone Mercy's asthma program, please call Care Coordination at 1-800-537-4100.  We want to help you with your asthma.
