Keep Children Safe Around Water

The biggest rule for safe fun in the water is “know how to swim.” This does not mean that accidents won’t happen. So be sure you follow these rules:

  • Watch children at all times when they are near water, even in a wading pool.

  • At parties, have adults take turns watching the children.

  • If you have a pool, make sure it has a fence and a gate with a lock. Hang signs with rules. Enforce the rules.

  • Be sure sitters know the safety rules.

  • Check with the American Red Cross or YMCA about life jackets for babies and children.
