Get Your Flu Shot

Everyone needs to take steps to prevent the flu. The best time to get the flu shot is in the fall. Then the vaccine can protect you during flu season. The season lasts from December to March. Call your doctor to get a flu shot.

Protect yourself

You can help prevent the flu:

  • Get a flu shot every year.

  • Wash your hands often.

  • Stay away from people who are sick.

You need a flu shot every year. This is because the flu virus changes from year to year. Scientists update the vaccine every year.

Milder symptoms

Even with a flu shot, you may still get the flu, but your symptoms won’t be as bad and you will recover more quickly.

Getting the flu can be serious for people with chronic illness, for those ages 65 and older, and for children between ages 6 months and 2 years. Getting a flu shot is especially important for people in these groups.
