Gina's Story: Have a Healthy Baby
Hello. I'm Gina, and I just had my first baby. Take my advice: If you think you are pregnant, go see your doctor or go to your clinic right away.
Here's what pregnancy was like for me. My breasts started to get sore. I got sick in the morning, and I did not get my period when I was supposed to. I thought I might be pregnant, so I went to the health clinic. The people at the clinic said I was four weeks pregnant. They were glad I came in so soon. They said it would give my baby a better chance of being healthy.
I got a special doctor called an OB/GYN. I saw her often during my pregnancy. It was hard sometimes to get time off work, but the people at the clinic helped me set up times that were good for me. My doctor checked my baby to see if he was OK. She also checked my health and answered my questions.
I signed up for childbirth classes and classes to stop smoking. All of these things helped me to have a healthy baby. My baby Erik is 2 months old now. His health is important to me. I take Erik for checkups and shots. Trust me, if you are pregnant, getting health care early is the best thing to do! If I could give advice to any pregnant woman, it would be this: See a doctor as soon as you think you are pregnant. You'll be less scared, and it's the best thing for your baby.
